GPT Partitions: Clear a Reused Disk and Lay Out Data and Swap
MediumRHCSA Prep15 minThe brief
A disk has been handed to you from another team: /dev/s9disk, 1 GiB, already labelled GPT. It still carries their old 100 MiB partition named old-scratch. Prepare it for this server:
1. Delete the old-scratch partition. Keep the GPT label.
2. Create a 300 MiB partition with the Linux filesystem type, for data.
3. Create a 256 MiB partition with the Linux swap type.
Only the partition table is graded, so you don't need to format or mount anything. Sizes within 5% count, and any tool that writes GPT is fine: parted, fdisk or sfdisk. The brief is also in /root/case/brief.txt.
What you'll do
- List a GPT disk's partitions and their types
- Delete a partition without relabelling the disk
- Create partitions with the right size and type
Hands-on lab: you work on a real Linux box in your browser, graded on the machine's actual state.
