Static IP: Persistent NetworkManager Profile

MediumRHCSA Prep15-20 min
The brief

The eth0 interface is on DHCP, but this host needs a fixed address. Make the change PERSISTENT the way it survives a reboot: in NetworkManager's keyfile store, /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/, set eth0's connection to a static (manual) IPv4 of 192.168.1.100/24 with gateway 192.168.1.1. This is exactly the on-disk profile nmcli con mod writes — and NetworkManager will refuse to load a keyfile that isn't mode 0600, so lock the permissions too. Grading reads the persistent profile (the reboot-durable fact), not the live interface.

What you'll do
  • Set eth0's connection profile to manual IPv4 192.168.1.100/24
  • Set the default gateway to 192.168.1.1
  • Keep the keyfile mode 0600 (NetworkManager rejects looser permissions)

Hands-on lab: you work on a real Linux box in your browser, graded on the machine's actual state.
