Recovery Drill: Staged Restore and Verify

The brief

Disaster-recovery drill. Production /srv/app was wiped; a full backup sits at /root/backups/app-backup.tar.gz. Restore it into the STAGING area /srv/recovery (verify a restore in staging before swapping into production), so /srv/recovery holds every file from the backup, intact.

Assignment vars are in /root/case/assignment.env. The file set varies per session. See /root/case/brief.txt.

What you'll do

Inspect a backup archive before restoring
Restore into a staging area rather than over production
Confirm the restore is complete (all files present)
Verify integrity — every restored file matches the backup
