Recovery Drill: Restore the Right Point in Time
MediumRHCSA Prep10-20 minThe brief
Point-in-time recovery. Production /srv/data was lost. Two dated backups exist in /root/backups: the newer one captured a bad deploy (a corrupted app.conf), so the last known-good restore point is the OLDER backup. Restore from the correct generation — not just the latest — into /srv/data.
Assignment vars (GOOD_ARCHIVE, LATEST_ARCHIVE) are in /root/case/assignment.env. Dates and contents vary per session. See /root/case/brief.txt.
What you'll do
- Recognize that 'latest' is not always the right restore point
- Restore from the last known-good backup generation
- Recover intact data, not a corrupted config
- Confirm the recovered state
Hands-on lab: you work on a real Linux box in your browser, graded on the machine's actual state.
