Capacity: Find Where the Disk Went

EasyLinux+ Exam Prep10-20 min
The brief

The spool area /root/case/spool is using more disk than expected and you need to find out where it went. Your assignment vars are in /root/case/assignment.env.

Report three facts as plain text:

  • /root/case/biggest.txt — the NAME of the immediate subdirectory using the most disk (just the name, e.g. svc-a)
  • /root/case/bigfile.txt — the FULL PATH of the single largest file under the spool
  • /root/case/filecount.txt — the total number of regular files under the spool

The layout varies per session. See /root/case/brief.txt.

What you'll do
  • Rank directory usage with du
  • Find the single largest file with find
  • Count files under a tree
  • Reason about what's consuming capacity

Hands-on lab: you work on a real Linux box in your browser, graded on the machine's actual state.
