User Management: Provision a Service Account
MediumLinux+ Exam Prep15-20 minThe brief
A new service account must be provisioned to an exact specification. Read /root/case/assignment.env for the account: the username (NEWUSER), the numeric UID it must have (NEWUID), its primary group (PRIMARY_GRP), an additional (supplementary) group it must belong to (SUPP_GRP), and its login shell (LOGIN_SHELL). Both groups already exist. Create the account so all five facts hold. Grading reads the live account databases (/etc/passwd, /etc/group), so the account itself must be correct.
What you'll do
- Create the account with the exact assigned UID
- Set its primary group and add the supplementary group
- Set the assigned login shell
Hands-on lab: you work on a real Linux box in your browser, graded on the machine's actual state.
