Package Management: Pin Packages on Hold
MediumLinux+ Exam Prep15-20 minThe brief
Automatic upgrades on this Debian-based host must never touch two packages that are validated against a specific version for this deployment. Read /root/case/assignment.env for the two package names (PKG_A, PKG_B) and place both on APT hold so 'apt upgrade' / unattended-upgrades will skip them. Grading reads dpkg's durable selection state (what 'apt-mark showhold' reports), so the hold must actually be recorded — no network or install is needed.
What you'll do
- Put the first assigned package on hold
- Put the second assigned package on hold
- Confirm both appear in apt-mark showhold
Hands-on lab: you work on a real Linux box in your browser, graded on the machine's actual state.
