Package Management - RPM

EasyLinux+ Exam Prep10-20 min
The brief

On this RHEL-family box (Rocky Linux 9), trace a file back to the software that installed it. Your brief (/root/case/brief.txt) names one file — use the RPM database to answer two things about it, each as a single line in its own file: which package owns it (the package NAME → /root/case/owner.txt), and what version of that package is installed (its VERSION-RELEASE, e.g. 9.0-3.el9 → /root/case/version.txt). The full name-version-release.arch string rpm prints for the package is accepted in either file. Grading re-derives both from the live rpm database, so read them from the tools rather than guessing.

What you'll do
  • Query which RPM package owns a given file
  • Query the installed version-release of a package
  • Record each answer where grading expects it

Hands-on lab: you work on a real Linux box in your browser, graded on the machine's actual state.
