Accessibility: The Linux Screen Reader

MediumKernel Security & Rootkits2-5 min
The brief

You're configuring a Linux desktop for a blind user who needs the interface spoken aloud — menus, dialogs, and text read out as they navigate. The desktop's accessibility (a11y) stack includes magnification, high-contrast themes, sticky/slow keys, and a screen reader. Which application is the standard open-source screen reader that ships with GNOME and reads the desktop aloud (via speech and optionally braille)?

What you'll do
  • Know the Linux desktop accessibility (a11y) toolset exists
  • Identify the standard GNOME screen reader
  • Distinguish a screen reader from magnifier / high-contrast features

Knowledge check: answer from what you've learned, graded on the server.
