Permissions: Hit the Exact Mode
EasyLinux Fundamentals10-15 minThe brief
Three permission jobs in /root/workspace — each with an EXACT target, the way a hardening checklist would state it:
1. secret.txt must be readable/writable by the owner only (mode 600).
2. The reports/ directory must be enterable by the owner only (mode 700) — remember, x on a directory means 'can enter'.
3. deploy.sh must be executable — then RUN it (./deploy.sh) so it drops its proof file.
Use chmod either way you like — octal (600) or symbolic (u=rw,go-rwx) both pass; the grader reads the resulting mode bits, not your keystrokes.
What you'll do
- secret.txt is mode 600
- reports/ is mode 700
- deploy.sh is executable and has been run
Hands-on lab: you work on a real Linux box in your browser, graded on the machine's actual state.
