Say Hello to the Machine

EasyLinux Fundamentals5-10 min
The brief

This is a real Linux computer, and the black box in front of you — the terminal — is how you talk to it. You type a command, press Enter, the machine answers. That's the whole trick. Ask it three questions: who are you logged in as (whoami), where are you standing (pwd), and what's at the very top of the filesystem (ls /). Type each one, press Enter, and read what comes back. No traps, no wrong answers — this lab is just you and the machine, saying hello.

What you'll do
  • Run whoami and read who the machine thinks you are
  • Run pwd and see where you're standing
  • Run ls / and see the top of the filesystem tree

Hands-on lab: you work on a real Linux box in your browser, graded on the machine's actual state.
