Backup: Restore Lost Files from a tar Archive
EasyRHCSA Prep10-20 minThe brief
Two files were lost from the live data directory /srv/data, and a compressed backup of the complete set is at /root/backups/data-backup.tar.gz. Restore the missing files from the backup — with their original contents — so /srv/data is whole again.
Assignment vars are in /root/case/assignment.env. Which files went missing varies per session. See /root/case/brief.txt.
What you'll do
- Inspect a gzip-compressed tar archive with tar -tzf
- Identify which files are missing from the live directory
- Extract specific files from an archive with tar -xzf ... -C
- Restore data to its original content
Hands-on lab: you work on a real Linux box in your browser, graded on the machine's actual state.
